Repair Gum Recession Without Sutures Or Surgical Cutting

posted in: Periodontics | 0

The early stages of gum recession can go undetected. You might notice your teeth looking slightly longer than you remember them being, or you might experience some dental sensitivity — nothing too severe.

But left untreated, those early signs of gum recession are like falling terrain that eventually gathers speed to cause a full-blown avalanche. Severe gum recession can leave the roots of your teeth susceptible to decay. This can result in loss of the tooth.

Luckily, it’s easy to undo the damage caused by gum line recession when you come to Dream-Dentistry & Sleep Care. That’s because Dr. Roeder was among the first in the state of Pennsylvania to offer a revolutionary procedure that restores a healthy gum line without using sutures or surgical cutting. It’s called the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique.

February is Gum Disease Awareness Month, and since gum line recession is most often caused by gum disease, we thought we’d share some information about this solution to gum recession.

Read on to learn more about how the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique can save your smile. Then, give our Quakertown, PA office a call at (215) 804-4777 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Roeder.

A Less-Invasive Alternative To Gum Grafting

If you’ve never heard of the “Pinhole” technique, there’s a good reason for it. In order to perform this procedure, you have to undergo special training and obtain a certification. So, most dentists don’t repair gum recession damage using this technique.

Instead, they use a procedure called gum grafting. It involves removing a small amount of healthy tissue, typically from the roof of your mouth, and securing it over the damaged gum line using sutures. It’s an effective way of repairing your gums, but it’s also uncomfortable and inconvenient. It can take a couple of weeks for your gums to fully heal.

With the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique, many patients make a full recovery within 24 hours. And the procedure itself is so minimally invasive that most patients can leave our office afterward and go about their normal, everyday activities. The procedure can be completed in as little as an hour, depending on your case. That’s why it’s sometimes called the “Lunchtime Gum Lift™.”

How The “Pinhole” Technique Works

When you come to Dream-Dentistry & Sleep Care for a Chao Pinhole procedure, we’ll first get you comfortable in the dental chair. We’ll explain our process and answer any questions, and you’ll have the opportunity to order from what we call our “comfort menu.”

If you want a soft blanket to keep you warm during treatment, a warm neck wrap to support your neck, or even nitrous oxide to help ease your tension, we can make it happen. Although the procedure is incredibly gentle, we also offer oral sedation and IV sedation if you feel severe anxiety surrounding your treatment.

Then, we’ll get to work. Dr. Roeder will thoroughly numb the area and create two tiny entry points — “pinholes” — in your gum tissue. Then, he’ll use a special tool to gently loosen the gum tissue and guide them into a position where they’ll better protect your teeth. After that, small strips of collagen are inserted into your gums. These structural proteins promote regeneration of healthy gum tissue, which is what ultimately allows you to regain the full and healthy gum line you enjoyed before gum recession occurred.

Because there are no sutures involved, you’ll be able to leave our office with a smile that looks much healthier than it did when you came in. You won’t have to wait weeks to see the benefits!

Paying For Your Healthier Smile

We know that it’s impossible to ignore the cost of treatment when you’re considering getting dental work done.

The cost of treatment varies based on a patient’s individual needs. So, it would be difficult to provide a rough estimate of cost without a consultation. But we find that the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique and traditional gum grafting are comparable in price, even though patients love the comfort and convenience afforded by the Pinhole technique.

We also offer several easy payment options to make treatment less stressful for you. We accept most PPO plans, as well as CareCredit. This service offers no-interest and low-interest financing for those who qualify. We also offer an in-house dental assistance savings plan. Our friendly administrative team would be happy to tell you more about these options if you have questions.
